There are two important stages in mushroom development. The mycelium growth stage and the fruit body growth stage. A good mushroom grower understand the techniques of growing healthy mycelium and inducing fruit body. Most growers in Nigeria only know how to fruit the mycelium but don't know how to grow the mycelium. The beginning stage of mycelia growth is tissue culture where tiny tissues are taking from a young healthy tissue to generate a mycelia biomass. This is called Starter culture . When this mycelium can be replicated in clones, this is called Mother spawn. Understanding the right physiological and substrate  environment to grow various mushroom is one secret to a successful mushroom cultivation. Mushrooms are generally temperature specific.
